Our Conductor

Conductor Alan Yost has a Master of Music degree in percussion performance from the University of Northern Colorado and a Masters of Software Engineering from Brandeis University. In recent years, he has served as the music director for light opera productions, three fully staged operas, and special events at the performing arts center in Concord, MA. Alan has conducted many concerts of chamber music with the Concord Ensemble and the Minuteman Chamber Orchestra, In the last several years has been engaged as guest conductor for the Evergreen, Jefferson, and Longmont Symphony Orchestras in Colorado. In addition to musical pursuits, Alan is a research aircraft pilot and IT specialist working for the U.S. Department of Transportation's Volpe Center in Cambridge, MA. He is also a former professor of Aerospace Studies at Metropolitan State College in Denver, CO

Our Concertmaster

As with most orchestras the overall responsibility for managing CCO rests with a governing board.  Since CCO is a principally volunteer ensemble, its governing board is composed entirely of performing members who fully understand the wishes and concerns of the membership at large.

Our Management Structure

Rather than a single Music Director, CCO has a Music Committee composed of seven playing members including the conductor and concertmaster which reviews and approves all concert programming.  Having the selection of programming shared in this way strengthens the membership bond throughout the orchestra and helps to insure performances with wide audience appeal.

Musical Direction

Subaiou Zhang Carter was born in Tianjin, China and started to play the violin at age 3. Winning a national competition for youth in China at age 7, she engaged in serious study of the violin until age 12 and laid the instrument aside. In 2006, she came to the US pursuing undergraduate studies in the biological sciences. While preparing for medical school, she worked in molecular and genetic research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after graduation in 2010. After realizing she wished to pursue music seriously instead, Subaiou resumed her violin studies again in 2012 and entered Boston University’s School of Music to study with Professor Yuri Mazurkevich. Subaiou holds a Master of Music degree (2016) and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree (2021) in Violin Performance from Boston University. Subaiou was the Grand Prize winner of the Bach Competition at Boston University School of Music in 2015, and performed as concertmaster and soloist with the Wellesley Symphony in 2016 and soloist with the Brookline Symphony in 2017. Subaiou performs chamber music with Frost String Quartet and is a co-founder of the non-profit arts organization Spectacle Collective.
